About Jodhpur Airport

History
The Jodhpur Flying Club was set up by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1920s with a small airfield near his Chittar Palace in Jodhpur. It was one of the first air bases in India.
It was used as an airfield by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II until 1950s.
The airfield was later upgraded in 1950 after the formation of the Royal Indian Air Force (that later became the Indian Air Force).
Jodhpur was home to the Indian Air Force’s Air Force Flying College until the 1965 war.
Today that small air field is now one of the Indian Air Force’s premier military bases.
